A super show by CSK

Chennai: Chennai Super Kings moved provisionally to the top of the table after an 18-run defeat of Delhi Daredevils at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.
Super Kings' blueprint for home wins was not deviated from.
After deciding to bat, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (63 not out) in the company of Subramaniam Badrinath (55) helped the side to a large total (176 for four), which its spinners helped defend, in what was the defending champion's sixth win in front of its fans.
The men in yellow have eight wins and 16 points from 12 games, while its eighth loss left Daredevils, shorn of Virender Sehwag, with no hope of qualification.
The visitor went in with five pacemen and the lone spinner on a Chennai track that has aided the slow bowlers throughout the tournament, preferring instead to beef up its batting with the all-round talents of Irfan Pathan, James Hopes and Andrew McDonald.
Losing gamble
It turned out to be a losing gamble at both ends, as Daredevils' medium pacers couldn't hold Super Kings' batting down while the extended batting line-up failed to get the measure of the home side's spinners.
Once Albie Morkel ended Naman Ojha's flourish at the start of Daredevils' innings, Ravichandran Ashwin and Suresh Raina took over, going for 37 runs in their eight overs, while picking up two wickets, to effectively cripple the chase.
Irfan played a lone but laborious hand for Daredevils, doing little more than reducing the margin of defeat.
Poor bowling
Earlier, Dhoni in the company of Badrinath fed on some poor death bowling to plunder 50 runs off the last three overs.
Coming in at the fall of the third wicket, the skipper edged two of his first three boundary hits, but took full toll of the series of full tosses that Ajit Agarkar and Irfan dished out at the end, which cancelled out Varun Aaron's earlier parsimony. The paceman's analysis had read 3-0-8-1 at one stage, but even he suffered in the final onslaught.
Second fiddle
Badrinath played second fiddle for the majority of the innings, and though he could not match the savagery that Dhoni wrought on the bowling, played a few clean shots himself, the inside-out hit wide of long-off fast becoming a trade mark.
Atypical as Daredevils' bowling combination was with respect to the track, the visitor kept Super Kings in check during the early stages, dismissing Michael Hussey and Raina within the Power Play overs.
Murali Vijay counter punched, greeting Agarkar with two leg-side flicks that landed in the stands.
Though the opener ensured that the early wickets did not overtly clog the scoring, he did not really impose himself on the bowling.
Badrinath played a similar stop-start innings, at least initially, airing hooks repeatedly, which luckily for the batsman, landed in no-man's land.
A four-over spell between the sixth and ninth overs yielded just 16 and Daredevils would have had more to show for its efforts, had Hopes or Shahbaz Nadeem held on to the chances that Vijay offered, off consecutive balls.
When Vijay holed out and with Chennai on 68 for three in 10.2 overs, out walked Dhoni, and with him arrived the urgency that Super Kings had lacked until then.
